The new Bourns® Polymeric Thermal Cutoff (P-TCO) device family is intended to safeguard USB Type-C connections and other charging cables from potentially damaging thermal runaway occurrences. The P-TCO product line offers an effective resettable thermal sensor for overheating and overcurrent protection.
Available in EIA 1210 and 1206 size SMD footprints (P-TCO-U and P-TCO-N series, respectively), Bourns provides effective overtemperature protection from heat generated in charging cable connectors due to unintended faults within the connector circuitry. Typical applications include, but are not limited to USB Type-C cable configurations including USB-C to C cables, USB-C to B cables, USB-C to A cables; USB 3.2, 3.1, 3.0, and 2.0 protocols; and other charging cables.
When compared to other models in similar or bigger sizes, each P-TCO has a thermal cutoff temperature from 75 °C to 100 °C, ultra-low resistance, and high current, high voltage, and high breaking capacity performance even in a compact space-saving design and high power density.
